How to Support A New Author

Starting out in a new business is scary (yes, being an author is a business.) I have no idea where my tribe is or how to find them. My community is the folks who actually want to hear from me - they want to know stuff about me, they want to engage with me and they want to buy and read my books. The group of people I am searching for are voracious readers (books) and listeners (audio,) who love stories. These people are a lot more likely to reach for a book or a recording than to turn on the television.

If you are looking at my posts on the socials and wondering what you can do to help me along my way to my greatest heartfelt desire of becoming a beloved storyteller, here are some ideas -

  1. First of all, own me. Make me someone that you are interested in and you keep an eye on. How do you do that? …

  2. Go right away and sign up for my once-a-month newsletter. When I say one time a month, that’s the truth. I am not going to blow your email box up with silliness. In the newsletter there will be personal goings on, new happenings with the most current title I am working on, free excerpts from my books, deleted chapters or ideas and more. aylahhallel.com

  3. Buy my books. My books are available in hard copy, Kindle and soon to be Audible. You can purchase from Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

  4. Engage with me. I love talking about writing, being an indie author, and the trials and tribulations of author life. I am on five different socials - Facebook, Instagram, Tiktoc, Pinterest, and Youtube.

  5. Promote me to others. If you know someone who is looking for a book in the genre of the books I write - give them my website. Thank you to those of you who are already doing this, I see you. What is my genre? Witches and Wizards, ghosts, reincarnation, time travel and other mystical, magical topics. Love, magical realism, healing, and deeply spiritual concepts.  I do not write horror. And I have a unique attitude about true love that you will find in my books.

  6. After you have read one of my books, please go to where you bought it and leave a review. The more book sales and good reviews I get the faster I am moved to the top of the list. Reviews are so important.

  7. Critique my work. I have a “Contact” button at the top of my website. Let me know what you think, what could have been done differently and what needs to be changed.

Like most artists, I have many hopes and dreams around my work. I believe that storytelling is healing, creates community, and can lift us up and bring us together. I believe that magical stories especially are good for our souls and our imagination and help us in the creation of our magical life.
